[GTE and AT&T]

We live in interesting times. I would imagine AT&T's new CEO, Michael Armstrong, will have his work cut out for him without taking on a merger/buyout, so I wouldn't expect any action for a few months at least. That's just my take. I could be wrong.

As for GTE deployment, I would imagine not having to focus on the MCI merger would leave them free to launch. Will they? I really don't know. They're keeping their cards close to their chest. To be honest, I've heard yes from some very reliable people and I've heard no from some who are equally reliable. Having half the pieces to the puzzle, everyone assumes they know the whole.

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic --- if for no other reason than an announcement would shore up the stock. This slow erosion is like hail before harvest.
