And that fact signifies why nearly all political thinkers were opposed to democracy until sometime in the 19th century (even most of the people at the Constitutional Convention were opposed to it; certainly the ones who could in any sense be called "philosophers).

Of course, as either Shaw or Churchill noted (it's been ascribed to each of them), the problem is that all of the others are worse. Or at least can be so.
