Geoff - One of my contentions has always been that Dell
currently cannot grow their infrastructure fast enough to
pursue the high margin opportunities they are presented with
now. Targeting the hi volume lo margin would divert precious
human and manufacturing resources the wrong direction.

What prevents Circuit City and CompUSA from becoming middlemen
for Dell is the fact that they ARE the retail channel. Why
would anyone buy a Dell PC from CompUSA that they could get
cheaper directly from Dell?

Could Dell develop a low end system exclusivey for the retail
channel and not sell it direct? Hmmmm, maybe...

In my mind the direct model and the resource issue is a major constraint, but outside of that, anybody have any thoughts on
how this could or could not become a viable strategy?
