All insurance companies are already approved and regulated at the state level, frequently with requirements or restrictions on their coverage. The federal role will make coverage available to everyone, which is the standard in all other western democracies and has been for decades.

California Insurance Commissioner is an elected executive office position in California. The officeholder is in charge of the California Department of Insurance.

The current Insurance Commissioner is Republican Steve Poizner.

Oversees and directs all functions of the Department of Insurance.
Licenses, regulates, and examines insurance companies.
Answers public questions and complaints regarding the insurance industry.
Enforces the laws of the California Insurance Code and adopts regulations to implement the laws.

Regulating insurance companies is not equivalent to telling you what treatments you can and cannot have.
