NEWS: ASIA'S FINANCIAL CRISIS WEIGHS ON CISCO'S SALES By WAYNE ARNOLD Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL HIGHLIGHTS include: In just over one year, U.S. networking company Cisco Systems Inc. has watched Asia transform from its fastest-growing market to its slowest-growing as the region's financial woes force governments and companies to put off high-tech shopping. The decline is just part of a year that saw global revenue growth slow to 30% from 80% in the same quarter of 1996. "Asia continues to be challenging," he said, explaining that sales declined in half of the Asian countries where Cisco does business.
