Stingray, >>Bear markets can create very good investment opportunities, but only after stocks get beaten down so far that they are grossly undervalued.

I use Stan Weinstein's book "Secrets for Profiting in Bull and Bear Market" as a guidance for low risk methods of shorting stocks. I am sure there are other books that are as good or better, but Stan's approach is conserative and allows one to get out with very little loss and still a potential for good gains. One thing he does not mention is the risk of waking up one morning and your short has been bought for twice the price, so I like to short those companies that whose probability of beng bought out is "LOW'.
