Obamacare forces doctors to tell bad jokes. - promoted by mooncat) Normally I wouldn't discuss my OB/GYN appointments on a blog. I'm sure the male readers don't want to know about the regular maintenance of my woman parts. But I did have an interesting discussion with my doctor a couple months back while I was there, and I figured I'd share. The nurse and the doctor both informed me that until I turned 35 it was now recommended that I receive a pap smear every 3 years instead of every year. I would still have to come in for yearly visits, though. Before I could turn cartwheels in the exam room (paper dress and all), my doctor blurted out, "It's not ObamaCare. This is actually a recommendation that was published before the law was passed." I wasn't sure how to respond to that, but he explained further. "Whenever I tell folks that, they seem to all say that it's ObamaCare. They think every little change is ObamaCare, these days. It's not." He added that I could still get the lab done every year if I wanted to, and it was covered by my insurer. This was just a recommendation. I giggled and explained that I wasn't of that particular persuasion. He smiled. Last week, I noticed a letter to the Birmingham News where a writers commented that because of ObamaCare rationing, her father's pacemaker would only be checked every three months instead of every month. Of course, the mentioned fact that he was not having any problems or had no real medical reason to have it checked every month wouldn't have had anything to do with that recommendation, either. It's all ObamaCare's fault. Also last week, my grandmother who is 95 years young took a bad turn. She has a history of heart problems, and she suffered congestive heart failure. She got better for a bit, and then she quit breathing on her own and her kidneys shut down. Her heart was failing. (She's currently doing much better. She's now breathing on her own and her kidneys are working again.) According to my aunt, at some point the doctor threw up his hands at her and told her that she'd better call her congressman because my grandmother's care was out of his hands. Forget that my grandmother is 95. Forget that as best we could tell, she was ready to go. Forget that open-heart surgery is out of the question anyway at her age and that (with her numerous other health issues) she's not a candidate for dialysis. It's all ObamaCare's fault. I asked my husband later which portion of ObamaCare specified that doctors behave like dicks. Almoderate :: That Scary ObamaCare So you see where I'm getting with this. Dozens of things that we normally would otherwise see as normal (though not necessarily to our liking) in the health care industry are now being blamed on ObamaCare for the sake of scaring the bejeezus out of you and "proving" that it really is the spawn of hell itself. Now, I'm not going to pretend that it's a great piece of legislation, but I'm also not going to pretend that it's the end of the world and the root of all evil, either. And so with that in mind...
