I'm thinking of periods around a year or more when P/E doesn't follow growth rates at all. Eventually either the E is adjusted or the P is adjusted. I'm not sure how long the DRAM problems occured but you are right in thinking of that analogy given the "oversupply" problem ... IMHO, though, the storage sector can move faster than DRAM in terms of fundamental shifts in types of storage tech. TFI -> MR and now GMR. NFR. Easier to sub-out backup and Jaz-like storage options since SCSI/Fibre/etc are standards and entire boards don't have to built around changes like the mother board changes for memory (RDRAM).
