"Zucco zeroes in on remote access market

By Michael Vizard
InfoWorld Electric

As an early pioneer of remote access servers, Shiva made a name for itself by carving out a niche in the competitive network hardware space. Since then, competition in this space has increased dramatically. To help Shiva compete more aggressively in an increasingly complex world, the company has named James Zucco, formerly a senior executive with Lucent, AT&T and MCI, to the post of president and chief executive officer.

In an interview with InfoWorld Executive News Editor Michael Vizard, Zucco talks about the role he hopes Shiva will play in helping to replace the existing telecommunications infrastructure with a digital network based on the Internet that will significantly lower the cost of remote-access computing."

Hey, check out that URL. It's abbreviated on my display, but it resolves to the correct URL. Hold the curser over it and you will see the full url in the NN status bar. SI fixed it so the really long URLs will work now.

Israel to improve tank protection United Press International - November 11, 1997 09:12 %INTERNATIONAL %ISRAEL %TANK V%UPI P%UPI By JOSHUA BRILLIANT RAMAT HASHARON, Israel, Nov. 11 (UPI) - Israel plans changes to its Merkava Mark II tanks after Muslim guerrilla rocket fire succeeded in penetrating its armor, a senior Israeli official said Tuesday. Shlomo Milo, president of Israel Military Industries, told reporters there would be ''some changes'' in the tank. ''I can't go into details,'' he said. Israelis have considered their locally designed and manufactured Merkava (chariot) tanks to be among the best and safest in the world. They have been used extensively in operations against guerrillas in the Israeli-occupied border ''security zone'' of southern Lebanon. However, rockets fired by Hezbollah guerrillas recently managed to penetrate the tank's protective armor. The Lebanese a-Safir newspaper said guerrillas overcame the protective shield by firing two rockets at the same spot. Milo said that General Israel Tal, who designed the Merkava, has been ''holding talks with us. But there is no decision on who will do the changes.'' -- Copyright 1997 by United Press International.
