ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1997--Ascend Communications, Inc., (NASDAQ:ASND) today announced that it is a partner in the new Microsoft NetOp Partner Solutions Center (NPSC) created by the Internet Customer Unit at Microsoft's Redmond, Wash., headquarters. The NPSC provides a multiple-vendor environment that facilitates the development and rapid deployment of turnkey large-scale public network solutions for network operators.
"The Microsoft NetOps Partner Solutions Center is a completely new -- and much needed -- way of creating and selling large, complex networking systems," said Mory Ejabat, president and chief executive officer of Ascend. "Until now, Ascend customers have had to buy all the pieces of their Internet POPs or intranets separately and then attempt the difficult task of packaging them into one system.
"The NPSC makes the task much easier; experts from each strategic partner, including Ascend, will work with customers to create fully integrated systems designed to meet their specific needs. We also expect that the NPSC will stimulate the kind of constructive feedback, from customers as well as from the other partners, that Ascend can use in developing its market-leading products."
Ascend Products Provide Network Access, Switching The NPSC has on-site all the expertise and resources needed to design, develop, test, integrate, and deploy turnkey public network solutions based on products and services from Microsoft and its partners. Ascend network access products available at the NPSC include:
-- The MAX 4004 remote access concentrator, which provides dial-in access and supports ISDN PRI.
-- The MAX TNT, the industry's highest capacity carrier-class WAN access switch, which concentrates dial-in and dedicated traffic in a single platform and supports multiple services, including ISDN PRI and xDSL.
-- The GRF 400 and GRF 1600 high-performance multigigabit routers, which can be combined with the MAX TNT to support an entire metropolitan area for carriers or ISPs.
-- The CBX 500 Multiservice ATM switch, a carrier-class, scaleable solution for maximizing the performance and capacity of public wide area networks (WANs).
-- The BSTDX 8000, a multiservice WAN switch.
In addition, the NPSC showcases products and services from other partners, including Digital Equipment Corporation, Lucent Technologies, Compaq Computer Corporation, NEC, Cisco Systems, WorldCom, and UUNET Technologies. Each strategic partner has experts on-site at the NPSC who can help customers develop and test turnkey end-to-end Internet, intranet, and extranet systems.
