Skeeter, 99.9% of what I encounter from SI, which is probably the most educated forum around, is, sorry but it's true, apathy, cynicism and defeatism.

Lol, and they know what's going on.

" the republic has fallen and we need a movement to get it back"

It's a AGING process, so the pain will be rather severe, acute
and unavoidable regardless of all the 'good/bad' intention.

Deal maker(s) will not save the country from aging, rather the
deal maker(s) are agent for hasentening the aging process.

awesime, excuse my Englosh.

There is a good article in the OCT 18th issue of the New Yorker titled "Confounding Fathers." It addresses the problem right now, the political fringe like the Tea Party, who in general distort history and the US Constitution. They rely on the John Birch Society playbook. And of course they conflate socialism with communism with fascism and totalitarianism. For me the Tea Party is a minor detail in my disillusionment with politics. And that's because the 2 parties are hostages to lobbyists. Maybe it's less so in state government. It seems that the congressional and presidential candidates are given a script. And it's about who can sell their script. I voted for Obama, and he seems the most egregious when it comes to campaign promises. So what happened to he's going to shutdown Gitmo, and he's not going to rescue the bankers, and the repeal of "don't ask don't tell." Well he has the chance now to repeal that, and the Pentagon is for it. But no, he said he'll do it when it's time.
