I have a Compuserve account and I scanned two of the Java forums there after reading that negative article. (Go Javauser Go Sunsoft). One thing about those CIS's techncal forums is that people rarely log onto to say how great a product is. They log in when they are having trouble, and if they are having big troubles they log in to complain. I saw no one posting any outright angry complaints. I saw not even one complaint that looked like any of the comments in the article. Everyone seemed positive on Java. People were asking technical questions about products they were developing, there were advertisements for Java programs. A very positive thread on CORBA and a company called Voyager. Discussions on which books are best to learn Java.

This is of course anectodle, but believe me if there is a major problem with a product it generally comes through loud and clear in those forums. I rememebr a few years ago when a Quicken tax program wouldn't print correctly....it was a total vigilante atmosphere in that forum.
