RFMI: The Motley Fool (The Daily Touble)

...Back in March, Robertson Stephens analyst Dan Niles upgraded the company. The stock was trading in the pre-teens, where it has returned, and his model called for raising fiscal 1998 earnings estimates from $0.65 to $0.70 a share.

It is a point worth considering because since the soft quarter announcement, the fiscal 1998 estimates, which had risen to $0.90, have been slashed to $0.84 a share. Yet that is still 20% higher than the spring outlook -- with the stock trading at the same price level.

At a realistic 16 times 1998 earnings projections, the company's valuation appears soberly attractive. If one were to take Densmore at his word, that the main reason for the slump was due to "delays experienced by certain customers in their own product designs " then it is conceivable that sales might very well pick up once matters outside of RF's domain are resolved.
