An S.F. friend of mine grew up in rural Washington. She did not have good stories to tell. racist. sexist. wife-battering. and without the good food of the south or at least being polite in general to neighbors.

Maybe some Seattle hipsters need to do tours around the state to talk with people. I'm serious about that. The south might be largely, almost all, red, but the issues are not contained here and we have done a dissersive to people of color, to poor people, etc by continuing to devide things as south/north. Idado? Nebraska? Wyoming? Even a state such as Washington with it's blue people... the numbers are there of white people who... really are not interested in certain things.

How successful has Obama been in talking to Rs? Its the same here. Rs in eastern WA refuse to compromise.

And eastern WA wants nothing to do with western WA with one exception. Its why they don't suggest dividing the state into two parts. Its because most of the good stuff....the growth generating industry.....the tax generating stuff....is in the Western third. So they keep their mouths shut and work diligently to elect an R statewide.

we need to get out in numbers. we are a ways off from flipping most states in the south, but when you have a state with 30ish percent black people, you only need to flip a certain number of whites. it 'can' be done. but if we start losing Washington and Ohio and others...

Mac, I hate to be negative but I think we will have another civil war. I don't see how its avoidable.
