We have no meaningful discourse here with or without teabaggers or teabaggery. People on the left post their articles, and people on the right post theirs (of course at least this thread has both sides- but I can't say I see anything positive coming from that). What we have here is a staking out of territory. The only meaningful conversations I've seen have been between people who are essentially on the same "side" but who see things slightly differently. There's not meaningful discussion in most of the rest of this thread.

Democrat vs Republican - the meaningless back and forth contines. Both blame the other for the nation's problems. But neither is at fault and neither has any solutions.

The problems are historic and structural, too large and too different to fit into the tired Republican vs Democrat discussion.

The issues we face are not the fault of either but neither has a clear view of what the problems really are. Have we not all felt that politics have been paralyzed for decades? How many of us really feel that either political party has solid answers? I think that's because we are unwilling to let go of the old paradigms.

The old parties have an outdated global view or none at all. They continue to assume a United States independent of the rest of the world, unaffected and in charge. But there are new powers and historic economic and geopolitical changes at work.

Neither party seems even to recognize this and presents no ideas for re-positioning the nation for a changed world. Things will have to get much worse before people can be shaken out of their old paradigms and prepare for the new ones.
