I don't think name calling has much to do with it. I don't find name calling as caustic and corrosive to dialog as ridiculous articles. Because what I've seen on SI is people spending a whole lot of time refuting a stupid article, and then the poster of that article, often ignoring any commentary, just posts another piece of the same. I don't even try to "converse" with people on the other side. That's why I ignore a lot of the content here. If I want content from the "other" side, I'll get it elsewhere, without added needles. This is not a conversation, for example, I'm merely stating my opinion, as you are stating yours. And the comment about John wasn't aimed at you. I remember Lindy used to bop in here to have a whack at John whenever he thought he'd found a "gotcha" article. I've no idea whether you do it too, nor do I care.
