As a lesbian who has gone up against and ended up with redneck Alabamians... I do mean this... maybe it really is you aren't seeing the bridge. It is there. but then... white straight males are working from a very differnt place, now aren't they? think about it. I use to post a lot on the FAMD thread. I learned when I was really young that compromise is the best way to go. It was hard for me because I had definite opinions about nearly everything but I learned that compromise can be very productive. Well I used that approach for nearly 5 years on the FAMD thread. I was like Obama his first year. After 5 years, I learned that compromising doesn't work with them. With these people.....and I use the term people loosely.....there is no such thing as compromising. Its their way or the highway. I am sure you've heard that saying before. It comes from a certain attitude......a sense of entitlement....a belief that your way is the only good way...with a good dollop of ignorance thrown in. And if they can't win with the facts, they lie. So again, if there is a bridge to these people that will work, not only does it allude me, I am sorry to say I know longer care if I find it. I know that's a bad attitude but it is what it is. Frankly, Mac, I think its a DNA thing. And now I can 'smell' whenever I am around one. Case in point, this past summer I was at a barbeque and bunch of us were sitting around joking. A woman came and set down with us. We all said hello and kept talking. Occasionally, someone would ask her a question and she would answer and then say no more. I began to be suspicious that it was ONE OF THEM. <g> In any case, at one point, I was talking about my German friends and said to the group that they [my German friends] usually call me because their rates are so much cheaper than mine. Suddenly, this woman who had said nary a word the entire hour suddenly broke into this rant....that the Germans are socialist and they live off the public dole and get everything paid for while the gov't goes to the poor house. It was so ugly and filled with so many lies and half truths. I sat there stunned. Then she got up and left the barbeque. Bottom line: I just do not like these people.....and would prefer not to break bread with them.
