Allen--If I might suggest some things to look for in research.
Check insider trading, and check the older data, sometimes you can pick up trends. One trend to look for is if institutional buying in a company is increasing or decreasing. Funds tend to move stocks in the direction they move. Check inventories to see if they are increasing or decreasing.
Look for things that might jar you in anyway. Lies are wonderful things if you are looking to short.
