Well it might be a wrench in the works for the country- since the republicans seem to think they can leverage their win by being uncooperative, but I think this will be an excellent set up to a dem presidential win in 2012. So I'm fairly chipper this evening. I'm a partisan, and not a centrist, so I'm interested in the democrats winning, in the long term, and keeping the really important posts- like the presidency. In terms of long term strategy, with the reps in charge of obstructionism, who is the electorate going to blame in 2012? I think we know the answer. :-)

I voted for Obama because I wanted supreme court picks I could believe in. That's still the goal for me.

Well, the one thing about democratic societies is the fact that, provided the process is fair and above board, THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE IS HEARD AND MUST BE ACTED UPON.

You say that it's "a visceral reaction from folks who don't really grasp the bigger picture".
Well, that's your opinion which you are no doubt entitled to. But it may be a statement made when the result of the vote does not go the way you may have wished it to have gone.

No doubt there are others who believe that something "was accomplished tonight".
For the size of the swing to have been what it was in both the House of Representatives and the Senate there must be a lot of unhappiness and dissatisfaction with the way things are at the present time.
Of course, one could debate for ever and a day who caused what and why, and what should have been done about it, and what should now be done about it, etc.. etc.. etc..

There are no easy answers and solutions to the current state of affairs. It will take honest and earnest endeavours by ALL concerned politicians and experienced citizens to work towards a more equitable and viable economic society in the USA to ensure a better future for ALL.

The last thing that the US needs is for anyone to be sticking wrenches in the works and playing politics for politics' sake.

Unfortunately there will always be those politicians who forget that they are where they are to SERVE the public and not for their own personal benefit and aggrandizement.
Hopefully it will be at times such as these that the voting public will recognize who they are, irrespective of which party the politicians may belong, and replace them with better serving individuals.

When I went to the polls yesterday, I received a sample Republican ballot with various initiatives I hadn't read about before showing up. One that caught my eye was a proposal for property tax exemptions for 100% disabled veterans. Sounds fair, you get shot up for your country and lose your mobility and working power for life, maybe you deserve society's support for that.

The Virginia Republican Party was officially opposed to the amendment.

The words that came to mind for that were "selfish ignorant scum", then they got worse. The same folks who DEMAND tax cuts for multimillionaires then brag about "supporting the troops" will fund the rich kids and screw over disabled veterans.

That is not my spin, those are the facts on the ballot initiative.

Happy to see this morning that the selfish ignorant scum lost big-time. Shame on them, shame.
