'the children' is code for more spending, more taxes, so get ready for it

California is at the bottom when it comes to education. Throwing more money at the problem is not going to fix it.

Jerry Brown sees the solution to California's problems very clearly. He is right when he says he knows how California works and how to get things done. Now he will be able to make it happen unfettered: A simple majority to pass any taxes he wants and a very cooperative democratic state house.

L.A. County's sales tax is 9.75% and goes up a half point quite regularly. Standard income tax rate is almost 11%. Another couple of points here and there won't hurt anyone.

Brown has said over and over that there is an abundance of money in California produced by small businesses. He leaves out that's who he is going to go after - and of course, they will pass on their tax burden to their customers.

But the weather is lovely here today: 80 degrees a mile from the beach.
