i agree...i would go even further and try to make gov't employee unions illegal.... in a perfect world of course

You have to make a distinction between the public sector unions and the others. And I believe the rank and file no longer slavishly follow their union boss' voting instructions. I would bet many more then 20% of the rank and file here voted for Cravaack.
