Good luck to Jerry Brown. He is a true blooded Californian who was raised in the beach party era and became active in the hippy era. Californians relate strongly with him. The only public education thing California has led in since the 70's is spending and it is part of the problem in the state's economy. Highest pay with poor results. He was strongly supported by the teacher union so I will be interested to see if he can actually get achievement standards raised to a position of leadership. That would require dramatic change in the system, which is hard to accomplish when people have such a strong union and comfortable salaries.
