Mohan, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Todays rally looks suspect to me. Volume is low, advance/declines are nearly neutral, and new higs/lows are nearly even. I don't think it will hold unless some more dipsters show up soon. BWDIK.

Mohan, warnings again, too much agreement on this thread. The only disagreement is about CSCO hitting the wall. While I think it might give a heart ache in the coming weeks (a severe spill with the market to the high 60' low 70'), I actually think that it will not give a warning, their business still look quite solid. I have been wrong before. In any event, a year end rally in CSCO from the low 70' to the high 80' might be a very nice 20% run, which I think I'll try and catch.

>>2. I think that at least 3 companies in the DOW 30 list will give a profit warning. CAT, JPM, MMM, HWP are among the likely candidates. I wouldn't be surprised if GE warns. I expect another profit warning from Motorola (a lot of exposure in SE Asia.)<<

Mohan - MOT normally doesn't warn do they? Why you so confident. As for GE, they never miss thus never warn. Remember, they absorbed Kidder Peabody fiasco. they have cushion galore. Its called Capital.

Pardon my bragging. One (JPM) down in the list, add KO (which "encouraged" analysts to lower estimates. -g-)
Quotable quote:

''It's taken the wind out of the market's sails, but it's not just about J.P.Morgan. It redefines that we don't know where the leadership is going to come from in the stock markets,'' said Robert Froehlich, chief investment strategist at Kemper Funds.

2. I think that at least 3 companies in the DOW 30 list will give a profit warning. CAT, PM, MMM, HWP are among the likely candidates. I wouldn't be surprised if GE warns. I expect another profit warning from Motorola (a lot of exposure in SE Asia.) Before end of January, the networking sector and, of course, cisco should hit the wall.

Mohan, >>CAT, JPM, MMM, HWP

I was short HWP and he traded above my definition of a break out. Oh well loose some but IMO HWP is behaving it self right in here.

What business does MMM depend on in Asia? MMM is begining to break down against my criteria, but am trying to figure out why you think they will warn because of asia.

If CAT would warn I would be a happy camper.<ggg>

BTW, I will really be surprised if GE warns. They generally work that through the analysts.

I am watching BAANF, they borrow money and a software company that has debt is a red flag for me. Also they have been or at least 3 months or so ago their APs were deterioating.

Mohan,

<< Most of the speculative junk will be shredded in to half or even more. Momentum stocks like PSFT, BAANF will hit the wall. >>

Both PSFT and BAANF have split 2:1 in the past week, so you were correct that they were shredded in to half !!! : ' ) <ggg>

BAANF: In the past 4 days, BAANF has dropped from 73 pre-split to 31 1/4 post split (62 1/2) for a nice 15% drop with no bad news. (In fact, there were several positive press releases.) Is this just the beginning?

I now own 2 Dec35 puts on BAANF which expire next Friday. (Small $, but I have to start somewhere!) Should I be afraid of a year-end rally or a bounce in this stock, or will the massacre continue next week?

Your thoughts on the market in general would be very much appreciated as well as your specific recommendations on my BAANF puts.

I also own 2 Jan30 PSFT puts, 2 Jan30 COMS puts, and 1 Jan37.5 COMS put. I expect both stocks to be a lot lower within 5 weeks, but I would rather sell all of the puts before the year-end rally starts so that I can buy them back cheaper during the first half of January.

Should I try to sell these on Monday, or do you think that this downward trend will continue for a few more days?

Also, any idea why COMS has held up so well? It has only dropped about 3 points over the past four days. Do you have any projections on where you think it will go from here?

Your input during this volatile time is especially appreciated. Some bad Calls have devastated a big chunk of my portfolio, but I hope to Put things back to where I began very soon.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Happy
