Zeev and Luis, good questions. The conventional enhanced study, whether it is CT with iodine or MRI with gad indeed takes several minutes. Recent CT techniques, enlarging upon Imatron's success, termed "spiral" are much faster and allow for full scans to be completed during the bolus injection (1-2 minutes). This gives great vascular anatomic depiction and there is much replacing of conventional angiograms with CT angiograms(CTA), Similarly rapid scanning techniques with MRI allow for enhancement dynamics to be characterized so that the "blood pool" technique that Zeev refers to when he describes venular flow, and is what you see when you must acquire data over several minutes, can be improved upon. this allows the more vascular lesions (greater arterialization) to be discriminated from less vascularized lesions. The point is you can always take LONGER to scan--short scan times are the more challenging.

Most scanners study both breasts at the same time. There is no reason you cannot study one at a time and you will need to do that to get the highest resolution. An efficient machine/operation could probably schedule 4 patients per hour but processing time (tech time to analyse etc, may take another 15 mintues). With articficial intelligence, I don't think faster than 4 patients per hour is possible Unless the fonar system ACTUALLY could do breasts well AND scan 4 simultaneously.

Luis: Fat suppression is required to OPTIMIZE detection of small lesions. Subtraction, with its inherent limitations may become unnecessary with fat suppression.
