The big bucks are in Medicare / Medicaid. GOP could propose raising age to qualify for Medicare.

Medicaid? Just freezing the amount would be a step forward, disposing of the various formulas that lead to exponential growth.

In general, bringing the "entitlements" (runaway spending under various formulas) under normal budgetary regime is necessary for balancing the budget.

I would make a noticeable slash in Energy, Education, EPA, Interior, Commerce, Labor, HHS, HUD and Justice.

The workers just crouch down in their chairs and wait four years. Keep DOD, State, Treasury, Interior and Justice, and close down the rest. Close all Regulatory agencies except for FDA.
