Yes, GLD did outperform the SPY by about 1% today.

But we all know this is artificial debasement of the currency by the Fed in order to avoid deflation.

And as David Stockman aptly put it, when you give the patient financial heroin, you risk killing the patient.

But then again, is it Heroin, or is it an Adrenalin shot in the economic heart meant to get it started again?

Some could argue that the patient was already in cardiac arrest (ongoing deflation and debt default). And it's debatable if it's wise to give Meth to a dying patient. Is it the best means of resusitation, or might it be better to put it on life support until it heals over time..

Some would say that without feeding the system a healthy diet to restore it's natural balance, all the drugs and electro-shock therapy in the world isn't going to work.

That natural balance, IMO, is restoring the demand curve to the economic equation. It means helping main street more than Wall St. It means productive/constructive employment and retraining. It means R&D into new and innovative technologies that will launch a new phase of productivity.

We simply cannot have an economic recovery with 20% functional unemployment. And contrary to what Nancy Pelosi would have us believe, extending unemployment benefits is not the best way to create jobs.
