The R's have their political machines, also, but since they haven't been dominant on the state level ever they aren't the 'same'. And Bentley isn't a part of any groups.

National and state are different things in many states, partly because of district drawing for national elections so the national is often not a reflection of a state house that has many more reps drawn from smaller areas.

The repubs here go swept in this time partly, if not largely, as a result of the massive corruption that finally, whoohoo, took center stage. The head of the AEA spending 100's of thousands of dollars to influence the Republican gov primary left a very rotten taste, for good reason.

And, T... how much worse can things get here? Bentley did not ever mention god. or abortion. or gays. and he says he won't take a salary until we are 5.2% unemplyment, and if he means it, he has to get more jobs in the blackbelt and B'ham and places for black Alabamians. and he plans a special session to start things off with drafting ethics rules, something the Democrats have managed to bat down every time. so we'll see.
