Edgar Renteria: Giants Shortstop Shown the Door Days After World Series Victory

bleacherreport.com

The San Francisco Giants have given World Series MVP Edgar Renteria a lovely thank you gift just days after the team won it's first title in 54 years: a pink slip.

The shortstop's option for 2011 was not picked up by the Giants, in a move that comes just days after Renteria was awarded the World Series MVP trophy for his heroics.

The timing of the move was unfortunate, to say the least, but the club had to make a decision on Renteria by Thursday, and the shortstop was contemplating retirement.

2010 was a tough year for Renteria. The 34-year old battled various injuries and maladies almost from the start of spring training, and played in just 72 games this season, by far the lowest total of his career.
