Blue states became what they are after 30 years of Reaganomics on steroids. Certainly Johnson's great society played a role too but much smaller IMHO. The lipstick on the pig part occurred after the real estate taxes and other hidden fees went through the roof courtesy of the housing bubble and military industrial complex buildup post 9/11. I never much though thought of this stuff until FOX and right wing talk radio brought it all up this decade from their myopic perspective.
