OT: nobody forces voter to remain ignorant - On the other hand I worked for a political software company. The make tons of money selling databases to every campaign and every elected official. Their software allows politician to target likely voters and get them out to vote. I doubt any elected politicians can get elected without using their software or something exactly like it. It's all about swing voters. They know all sorts of things about you: when you last voted party affiliation details about your profession your room mates and their party affiliation if you've ever contributed It's killer stuff. I hated working for them.
