Intel Selects Lite-On to Make PC Cameras

November 10, 1997 (TAIPEI) -- Lite-On Technology Corp. will produce a portable PC camera for Intel Corp., the world's largest maker of microchips.

Intel has authorized two other companies to make the product: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. of Korea and a Singapore-based company.

Lite-on said it had planned to extend its business to opto-electronics products.

Intel's relationship with Lite-on will be that of a "total solution" provider, because Intel will be responsible for the design and the supply of key components to Lite-on.

The new PC camera kit is expected to debut by the end of December, and production will be increased to reach 200,000 units a month. The price of each PC camera is likely to be set around US$300, or higher than similar products now available.

Lite-on is examining ways to reduce its production costs, in order to ensure its competitiveness in this sector.

Dave, I wish I could take credit for the poem, actually a friend of mine found the beginning of it in a newsgroup on the web, and sent it to me. I played with a few of the paragraphs and added one.

It seemed appropriate considering the recent firestorm.

Glad you and others enjoyed it. :-)
