"Somehow they have to bring back a Newt like contract."

Here, here! However, like Newt himself, it's more than a hard sell. Ain't gunna happen.

Look at the options. Fire teachers, or lower their pay and benefits/retirement, or do nothing. Multiply that by thousands of job types, programs, and facilities. The only things that will get cut are small ones, and jobs that have no voice from unions. We will have a completely ineffective result.

IMO, it is far past time to slash and burn. Cut everything by 10 percent - no politicing, no special carve outs, no special favors. If 10 percent doesn't work, do it again, and again, and again until things are back to manageable levels.

Cut grants to the arts, Social Security, military spending, road construction, parks, pay for congress... Cut, cut, cut. It will only hurt for a little while.

...just joking about Newt. I ain't a Republican.

Sure, as long as we at least halve what we spend on the military! Can YOUR team handle that? I don't think so..
