I did not know about the computer model that reproduced the Foamy Universe by invoking WIMPs. That makes them more plausible to me.
Previously I'd thought WIMPs to be a pure Gedankenexperiment. Start with Occam's Razor and ask "how can we package the missing mass we need?"
Make'm massive because, well, we need the mass.
Make'm very weakly interactive with ordinary matter andor energy to explain why we cannot detect them.
Make'm particles because plasma physicists are comfy with the idea of another particle, and also because this brings the unit mass down below the gravitational noise level.

WIMPs' primary theoretical competitirs are Massive Compact Halo Objects, nonluminous distant entities whose masses are expressible in fractions or multiples of the solar mass. The acronym, MaCHOs, shows us what those unrestrained party guys in Astrophysics consider witty. Put the sense of humor down slowly and turn away now...
