Aside from that, and tiny cuts in defense and Agribiz subsidies, it is just one more case of using the poor and the middle class as the front line warriors in the battle against the financial problem de jour. I've been watching it for 30 years, and I am sick and tired of it.

A VA co-pay ain't gonna bother Warren Buffet. 18 cent gas tax won't be noticed by the hedge fund manager who made 4 bil. Freezing the salary of the folks sweeping the floors of Congress and the VA hospitals won't effect Alan Simson or Erskine Bowles. Firing the person mailing out SS checks won't show up on Bill Gates' radar screen. Meg Whitman won't give a whoop if kids start paying interest on college loans from Day 1, cuz she's got the cash to avoid the loan in the first place, and we have too many people getting educated anyway. All of those will hit the folks making minimum wage, or even liveable wages really hard. "No mortgage deduction on the house? Not a problem. I paid cash for it; mortgages are for little people". The Walton Family doesn't need child tax credits; "goodnight, Johnboy, goodnight, Maryellen", and all that, and didn't qualify for the earned income credit, so scrap them.

This is nothing more than one last attempt to suck all the money out of the rest of us, and give it to the people who have so much they don't know what to do with it now. Something Lebron James will notice is removing the cap on SS taxes, cuz he only pays on a measly $106K or so, and not $10M, so we won't go there (not to mention $4 B hedge fund guys). Much better to cut Rat's bennies than tax Lebron. He wouldn't be happy, and an unhappy millionaire doesn't play good basketball. Much better to cut Rat's income to the point where he can't buy tickets, cuz he can always see the happy Lebron play, with fans Simpson and Bowles and maybe even Obama in attendance, on TV , until he can't afford the satellite dish anymore.

If they were serious, they would start by cutting defense 50%, and by making sure Exxon pays a higher % of taxes than I ever did; not a fake higher bracket, but actual dollars written on a check made out to the UST. And GE,too. abcnews.go.com

These people ain't serious about anything other than screwing the populace.
