I am very strong on STEI. 20% growth each year like clockwork, strong management team, big on "combos" which are more profitable, and a policy of not buying unless the acquistion is accretive to earnings during the first year.

I was a fan of LWN (and held it through the lawsuits, etc.) but I'm not too keen on them right now. The stock is a long way from the 60+ that Mr. Loewen thought the company was worth not too long ago. When there is one charge to earnings, it is usually followed by another.

I wonder how long SRV will watch from the sidelines before taking action. This is not to start a rumor, but I would not be surprised if we find out that SRV has called on LWN asking for terms of a "friendly" takeover. I would not be surprised if LWN is calling STEI for some kind of deal that would be an anti-SRV manuever.

Keep in mind this: LWN's and SRV's managements are long-time rivals, even before the takeover attempt. Very competitive.

I think STEI will end up as the one with the most to gain on this industry consolidation.
