Why are these shapes you're looking at on a screen telling you something (or in your case, telling some other reader something - the concept isn't getting across with you, unless you're just pretending to be dumber than you are)? Is there a law of nature that a particular string of characters means something? No. We humans as intelligent beings designate certain characters with meaning. Intelligent humans use this system to store and communicate information. As the genetic code stores and communicates information.
