I didn't find your writing offensive.

When I said producing I am thinking of people who actually work for what they earn.

The top 3% are not earning this money for the most part by producing. Much of it appears to be income on dividends and capital gains.

Most of the people in the country will work and sacrifice as hard as they have to. The vast majority of people have to know that safety floor you are talking about is a very uncomfortable place that you will do most anything to get out of, even if this means doing work illegals do now. Survival is a struggle and too many want to take it easy and let others do the heavy lifting. I see it every day at work even with people pulling down large salaries.

I think adding in SSI is a diversion. The wealthy 3% of the country can pay more taxes without arguing the lower income people are paying to much a % of their salary in taxes and SSI and all the other taxes.

Wonk:
spending has been bouncing around oh 19-21% of GDP since the end WWII.

Well according to this chart, government spending per GDP has doubled since the late 40s. There are spikes during WWI and WWII but for most of the last century the curve has been on the rise with each passing decade. (aside from the 1990s were there was a drop of a few percentage points...) It is now running at 45% of GDP.
