Suma:

I totally agree. The banks showed their stripes and proved themselves to be little more than thieves protected by the government.

But I would also add that if I and many others (Mish Shedlock and Karl Denninger to name two) knew that this was not going to end well. How is it possible that our leaders, from Bush and Paulson, to Frank and Dodd and everyone in between couldn't see this. I spoke to my congressman about it (a Dem) and he assured me that Bernanke and Paulson and other Washington big wigs ( he likes to drop names) said not to worry.

Now that it is over and even the janitor understands what happened, where are the prosecutions. Why hasn't Obama gone after them, why aren't the Republicans demanding that Obama prosecute.

Instead we, as taxpayers, bear the burden and the banksters make even more money that ever. And to make it worse we have quantitative easing and ZIRP both of which are designed to save the banks, which I believe are, for the most part still insolvent, but neither of which benefits us.

Needless to say your post hit a sore spot.
