Cool technologies often have independent discoverers. The turbojet was discovered and developed independently by Whittle and Hans von Ohain. I am trying to remember the third guy's name, and Italian who gets partial credit as well.

A Russian (Sakharov?) independently found the Teller-Ulam insight that made the thermonuclear bomb possible.

<edit> Regarding the turbo rotisserie idea - it WOULD seem the the Munchies are the stepmother of invention. I am surprised that brewing beer didn't bring with it a technological revolution of its own. The distillation of liquor might be cited as one of the drivers for early chemistry...
