Computer infrastraucture and power have grown exponentially, yes. But I consider these increments, engineering developments of core technologies that were already in place. The chip and its ancillary technologies were in place by 1970. There has been a spate of minor technological innovations (like asynchronous transfer, data compression, optical storage... or consumer baubles like flat screens and multifunction cell phones) but nothing that impresses me as a new enabling technology.
The nearest thing with which I can come up "on the fly" as a new scientific discovery would be the inferential discovery of exoplanets. We haven't directly imaged one yet.
