"What Did You Really Expect at These Prices?"

Ahhhh well, as the Bard would tell, therein lies the rub.

Don't know anything about Forida's Natural. But sitting in our hotel room in the summer I read the box and they touted they were not like the other companies - which import their oranges from outside the US - NO WAY!

Nope Florida's Natural apparently is a consortium of Florida orange growers. Hence "Florida's Natural".

So on the one hand they spout "we are using 100% Florida grown oranges" and on the other "we won't let a Florida company make and package our products - we ship it all to China and they do it for us". Smells bad IMO. (they don't mention hiring illegals - but as Hammy Hamster would say - we will leave that for another day).

They say one thing and do another. It really left a bad taste, no pun intended, with their products. I returned them to the store.

Another hyped up farce of a slogan is "S.C. Johnson - A Family Company". HA HA HA! What does that mean? Is that suppose to keep my day-to-day fears wondering when Ziplocs are exposed for something deadly, at rest?

But I agree with you - "Made in China" is not predominant. Who would think in their right minds, Europe's Best spinach is not from Europe!

In my world every product made would have a country of origin slapped on both sides - top left of the packaging. Everything. It won't happen so I have to do it myself. Wife had no clue that the spinach was from China --- never looked. I never bought it - so I looked.

Whenever I buy something new or see a change in packaging - I look very closely. Not always does it imply less product (/for more money). Typically radical ingredient changes and/or change in supplier. That is especially true with supermarket name brands (No Name, President's Choice, Equate etc) where the underlying supplier does change often.

All I can do nowadays is monitor the day to day happenings in my own family - and even then I cannot police everything. If people aren't paying attention to things like ingredients and place of origin - too bad for them.
