It's unfortunate that our political debate today has mostly lost interest in the difference between preaching and analysis

I come back to the concept that most of US politics today can be explained as secular rationalism versus Christian evangelism. There is no way to have a reasoned discussion or find compromise when one side does not believe in logic, facts and science.

When Johnson signed the Civil Rights bill in 1964, the Republicans began the process of co-opting the people, mainly in the deep south and southern mid-west, who put their faith in religious dogma over rational analysis. This strategy pushed the moderate Republicans to the sidelines and put in power people that we Northern rationalists see as a lunatic fringe.
