With my son, I looked at how the companies did during the two recessions we've had in the past decade. One in 2001 and one in 2008-2009.

I looked to see which companies continued to increase the dividend, increase the cash flow and increase the EPS every year for the past 15 years including the two recessions.

Since I'm looking out 40 plus years for my son, I wanted him to own the companies that continued to do business as usual regardless of economic times.

That tells me whose management team is better! And I bet on the winners first!
