I did not mean to imply that a secular lefty is incapable of establishing a healthy culture. Like you I know many who have. What I meant was that the left will fight you tooth and nail if you try to introduce the idea that our social problems are caused by culture. I remember many of my lefty friends who criticized Pat Moynihan when he made that suggestion. For example I have been called a racist for suggesting that the high number of out of wedlock pregnancies contributes to crime and poverty. Yet is seems clear as day to me. lj
