The idea that immigrants bring themselves and adopt those Enlightenment values is not totally true. They did and do to the extent that they remain. Totally agree.. But it's the fault of our elected government leaders (and therefore ultimately our own responsibility) for permitting dilution of the basic virtuous values upon which this country was founded. There were, of course, many negative values (slavery, woman's rights, etc) which had to wait for a later date. Hawk
