Platitudes (even if based in some actual facts) don't cut much ice when faced with the needs of acting in a crisis. True. Also irrelevant as I was not posting platitudes. it is HARD to look at that chart and imagine that the Reagan/Bush/Bush II so-called 'plans' to 'reduce federal deficits' have been anything but an unmitigated FAILURE. Which is part of the reason why I posted "Does that mean I think that deficits and debt are exclusively a Democratic caused problem? Not at all, in fact I'd call that idea ridiculous. It doesn't even mean I think the problem came overwhelmingly from the Democratic party." and "Not that the Republicans come off well here, in fact they have been horrible on this issue" You have horrible failure on one side, and even more horrible failure on the other (and often lack of even trying from both). Which is why I think Fallows partisan perspective on the issue is misguided.
