Employer provided health care insurance, even when the employer is the government, is not socialized health care, its part of the compensation for employment. No more socialist than his salary is. If he wasn't getting his paychecks and complained about it would you say that was hypocritical of him if he supports the idea of smaller government? I wouldn't.

OTOH - "This is the only employer I've ever worked for where you don't get coverage the first day you are employed." - Is either wrong, or its correct in his case, but atypical.
