There was a Hawaiian singer on American Idol named Jasmine Trias who made it much further into the 3rd season than she should have based on her talent:

The reason why she went so far was because Hawaiians kept voting for their local celebrity.

Bristol, of course, probably has the Sarah Palin fan vote. The haters, of course, wish there was a way they could cast "negative" votes. Ted is probably writing a formal request as we speak.

Well, I've never voted on that or any other show. I'd like to hear how that theory explains why the Palin Derangement Syndrome folks don't vote for someone else and get her off the show? Its kinda pathetic the attention this gets ... I read Good Morning America devoted 7 minutes to the "Bristol Palin controversy".
