re: "As an aside, I find it telling and quite interesting how we all view a topic such as this one and apply it to our own circumstances, or to situations that hold our interest of the moment."

Would you suggest we all opine based on experiences and/or knowledge we don't have?

(I'm just funnin' with ya and I know what you mean.)

What you describe is apparently "human nature" in many ways. Actually it takes imagination, creativity and innovative thinking to regularly opine, as a matter of habit, beyond one's own experiences and knowledge (or perceived knowledge, since we seldom have absolute or full knowledge, but sometimes mistakenly believe we do). Giving too much weight to "recency" in forming opinions is one of the harder things to overcome, even if you recognize it as a limiting factor. Having a strong interest in the "history of all things" helps.

It's The Selfish Gene at work: <I find it telling and quite interesting how we all view a topic such as this one and apply it to our own circumstances, or to situations that hold our interest of the moment. > Plus it's the matter of known knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns as well as the reality based community dealing with life as we know it. There's a cliche, proverb and slogan for every aspect of life.

Some of us are not shy about making things up as we go and inventing realities that don't currently exist, and perhaps going so far as testing those proposed realities in the drama of actual real life as we know it, using real money, sometimes even our own.

We usually hope to profit from those creations but not necessarily other than in the altruistic sense that we enjoy the profitless creation.

Seeing the future is a lot of fun and beats picking parasites out of our eyes while hoping that ElMatador delivers fibre and smartphones our way.
