Well for us buy-and-holders in IOC, it would have been nice to see a conventional deal with an immediate run up in the stock price. Instead we get a promise of big gains at some time a few years out - but meanwhile, everything will have to go smoothly with a plausible, but new and unproved technology.

Looks like I need to get back into options. Last time I was heavily into options, I was buying LEAP puts on housing crash stocks. Worked out well in the end, but was very stressful for a few years. So now, illogically, I have a hard time getting enthusiastic about options. I've heard this called 'bear fatigue'. After a few years of shorting stuff and buying puts, you just want to sit back and relax with a buy and hold portfolio.
